Bright, sleek, and paced for wistful summer nights, the style of groovy soca emerged in the 1990s with the release of Robin Imamshahs composition Frenchman, introducing an even slower tempo of soca to the music community across the globe. Though the style had been popular in Trinidad and Tobago since the inception of soca music in the early 1970s, it didnt see commercial success until two decades later. The term groovy soca itself wasnt coined until early 2005 by the ISM organizers (International Soca Monarch?- a competitive event) as a re-branding of the sub-genre, as micro niche genres were gaining popularity.
